ICLEI 2010 – 2015 strategy revealed

Konrad Otto-Zimmermann, ICLEI Secretary General, has unveiled a strategic plan that will guide the future work of ICLEI. The plan was revealed in a speech during ICLEI’s Future of Cities congress, which took place 5-7 October 2010 in Incheon (South Korea).

Amongst the key elements emphasised by the strategy, which covers from 2010 – 2015, are the need for rapid action and radical solutions to counter climate change, biodiversity loss and resource depletion; the need to keep fighting for recognition for the role of local governments and the continuation of the Connecting Leaders programme.

Over 1,000 participants, representing 42 countries attended the Future of Cities congress, Incheon 2010. Presentations from the congress are now available to download, as are reports from each day – 5, 6, 7October. Meanwhile, A Planet of Cities, a TV debate show focusing on urban governance, jointly produced by Korean global broadcaster Arirang and ICLEI, will air on 11 October 2010 at 00:00 GMT/UTC and 11 October 2010 at 06:00 GMT/UTC.
